Kings center leads NHL in goals and points.
Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar has been named the NHL's First Star of the Week for the week ending on October 25, the Kings and the NHL announced today. Former King and current Montreal Canadiens left wing Mike Cammalleri was named the league's Second Star and San Jose Sharks center Patrick Marleau was named the league's Third Star.
Kopitar led all scorers last week with nine points (six goals, three assists) as the Kings posted four consecutive victories and climbed to first place in the Pacific Division.
Kopitar tallied one goal in a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars on October 19, recorded his first career hat trick in a 5-4 overtime victory over Dallas on October 22, notched three assists in a 5-3 win against the Phoenix Coyotes on October 24, and scored two goals in a 6-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 25.
Kopitar, who in 2008-09 became the first Kings player since Luc Robitaille to tally at least 20 goals in each of his first three NHL seasons, is on track for a career year. The 22-year-old Slovenia native leads the League in goals (10) and points (21) in 12 games.
