The Junior Statesmen Foundation announces new high school scholarships
being offered by The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation of San
Francisco. High school students in Santa
Clarita Valley in L.A. County
are encouraged to apply. Recipients will have the opportunity to attend Junior
Statesmen Summer School at Yale, Princeton,
Stanford or Georgetown
universities or Symposia held in San Francisco
and Los Angeles.
High school students in Santa Clarita Valley in Los
especially those attending school in the William
S. Hart HighSchool district, are encouraged to apply
for one of twelve high school scholarships  being offered by
The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation of San Francisco.
Thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Foundation, three high school students will
be awarded scholarships to Junior Statesmen summer programs. Nine other
eligible L.A. County
high school students will be able attend Junior Statesmen Symposia. Offering an
academic opportunity to students who are passionate about politics and
government, Junior Statesmen programs are considered by many to be an ideal
training ground for tomorrow's civic leaders.
One full and two partial scholarships for high school students 
entering grades nine through twelve will fund attendance at Junior Statesmen
Summer School. Hosted annually at Yale, Stanford, Georgetown
and Princeton University,
these events can be investigated further at the organization's Web site .
In addition to funding for the Summer Programs, nine high school students
will be sponsored to attend one of this year's Junior Statesmen Symposia, each
hosted by a college. Symposium programs are three- to four-day events focusing
on such issues as leadership, politics, media, the Green economy, national
security and globalization. Henry Mayo Newhall scholarships are available for
students to attend the California Symposium on Politics and the Green Economy,
and the Gene A. Burd Symposium on Los Angeles Media and Politics.

school scholarships are available to qualifying students. The Gerald Garner
Memorial Fund, Meese Family Memorial Fund, Alice Tweed Tuohy Foundation, Robert
Meyers Scholarship Fund, and donors to the West Contra Costa Initiative also
