Eight world records shattered at May 18 meet.
Eight world records in 50 meter swimming were broken May 18 at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.
The record-shattering events happened during a Long Course Meet sponsored by the Santa Clarita Masters Club and the Aquatic Center. During the meet, competitors swim the 50 meter length versus the normal configuration of 25 yards.
The accomplished swimmers are as follows:
Rita Simonton, 90, broke the world record for the 1500 meter freestyle with the time of 36:28:48, beating out the previous world record of 42:30:27. Rita also broke world records for her splits of the 100, 200, 400 and 800 in the 1500 meter race.
Jurgen B. Schmidt, 85, broke the world record for the 1500 meter freestyle with his time of 29:12:85, beating out the previous record time of 29:35:88.
Erik Hochstein, 40, broke the record for the 100 meter freestyle with the time of 53:29. The previous record was 53:45.
Dawn M. Heckman, 31, broke the record for the 1500 meter freestyle with her time of 17:32:48, beating out the previous world record of 17:38:70.
