Local High School pitcher taken in first round of MLB Draft
Hart High senior Michael Montgomery was selected with a compensation first round pick by the Kansas City Royals in the MLB First Year Player Draft on Thursday. Montgomery led the Indians to a Foothill League Championship and has committed to play at Cal State Fullerton next year. Montgomery is expected to command a signing bonus in excess of $2 million from the Royals. Other local players are expected to go in the top 10 rounds including ex Valencia Viking and current Fullerton first baseman Jared Clark and former Viking Virgil Hill.
