Hometown Sports Report 4-1-08

It was an impressive opening day for former Hart pitcher James Shields.  Shields went seven solid innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs as the Tampa Bay Rays secured a win on opening day.  Ironically, the only runs Shields gave up were to Santa Clarita resident Kevin Millar, who hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first.

The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their season in front of 56,000 people, and Joe Torre’s club looked impressive.  Jeff Kent hit a two-run home run off former USC pitcher Barry Zito in the bottom of the first, and Brad Penny cruised through six plus innings as the Dodgers shut out San Francisco, 5-0.  The Dodgers and Giants square off for round two tonight, live on KHTS at 6:30p.m.

The Los Angeles Kings get back on the ice tonight when they travel to San Jose at 7:30p.m..  KHTS will have all of the coverage from that game at hometownstation.com.
