Alert citizen tips deputies off to suspects breaking into car.
Two people were arrested Friday after a Stevenson Ranch resident spotted them breaking into a car in the area of Hemingway Avenue and Faulkner Drive and called the sheriff.
The pair was confronted by the resident and fled, but deputies searching the area first found Nicole Demott, 20, of Canyon Country and her male accomplice, Anthony Mears, 21, of Stevenson Ranch, five hours later.
During the search for the second suspect, Stevenson Ranch Elementary School was placed on lock-down and a helicopter from LAPD provided air support.
Deputies discovered that the pair had driven a vehicle into the area that had been stolen earlier in Valencia. They were both booked at the Santa Clarita station and face felony charges of grand theft auto.
Demott is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail and Mears is being held without bail because of a felony parole violation. Both are due in court on Wednesday.
