Man’s assistance dog has been missing since Buckweed Fire
Clint Laird and his dog Shelby were inseparable; not only because they were long time friends, but because Laird is a paraplegic, and Shelby was his assistance dog. They spent every moment together, and it seemed as though, nothing could tear them apart.
But as the Buckweed fire burned across Canyon Country, causing smoke and panic, Shelby went missing.
Ever since that day, Laird has been searching for his friend.
Local resident, Mary Moore has made it her mission to help Laird, who she doesn’t even know, find Shelby.
When Moore first heard the story, she was immediately touched, and vowed to do everything in her power to help reunite Laird with Shelby. She says she can relate to Laird’s situation. “I don’t even know Clint, but I know what it feels like to lose a pet, a companion, and I want to help.”
She has been calling local animal shelters, as well as New Leash on Life, to see if anyone has turned Shelby in.
“I’m just trying to spread the word,” says Moore.
She’s also been driving around town looking at flyers that claim to have found dogs in the area.
And now, she’s hoping the public can help. “When you’re out and about, keep your eyes open… and if you think it could be her, please investigate, because you never know- it could be Shelby.”
