Dodgers Martin catches another award.
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Russell Martin has been awarded the Rawlings Gold Glove award. The award is the first for the 24-year-old, who just completed his first full season with the Dodgers. The Rawlings Gold Glove awards are given to the best defensive player at each position. In 145 games, Martin made only 14 errors and allowed only five passed balls. Martin also contributed with his bat, and is a leading candidate for the Silver Slugger award, which is given to the top hitting player at each position. Martin batted .293 with 19 home runs, 87 RBI, and 21 stolen bases while also starting the All-Star game for the National League. Only two other catchers have won the award as a Dodger: Charles Johnson in 1998, and John Roseboro in 1961 and 1966.
