Off-duty deputy wakes up to find burglar in his car
An off-duty Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff awoke around 4:00 Monday morning to find a man inside of his vehicle which was parked in the driveway of his Saugus residence.
When the deputy attempted to detain the suspect, Larry Vu, nineteen years old from Saugus, he violently fought with him and attempted to get away. The deputy and other residents who came to help, managed to hold the suspect until responding deputies took him into custody.
Deputies also arrested a second suspect, Lawrence Miyaki, of Sunland, who was attempting to flee the area in a vehicle.
Vu was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on a felony Burglary charge and a misdemeanor charge of Resisting a Peace Officer. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Miyaki was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on felony charges of Burglary and Petty Theft with a Prior Theft. They are each being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Further investigation revealed that several other cars in the area had also been broken into. Several stolen electronic items were recovered. The off-duty deputy, other victims and the suspect were treated for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
