This display will be part of the Zonta International “Sixteen Days of Activism” beginning November 25 through December 10.

The display will represent the women and girls who have been victimized by domestic violence. There will be shoes on display to represent those who have been victimized and red shoes for those who have died as a result.

Zonta members will staff the display most days between 2 and 6 p.m., offering orange Zonta Says NO ribbons to those who post a personal message on the display’s “shoe wall” and selling orange Zonta Says NO wristbands for $1 each.

Proceeds from the wristband sales, and shoes donated for the display will go to the Domestic Violence Center of the SCV once the campaign wraps up on Dec. 10.

Zonta also has challenged local junior and senior high schools to mount their own display and offer the wristbands as a way of creating awareness of domestic violence and working toward its elimination.

Golden Oak Adult School and Golden Valley High School have agreed to make the wristbands available to their students, and Zonta’s planning committee hopes that other campuses will join the effort within the next few weeks.

A proclamation by the City of Santa Clarita will help kick off the program on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Information on the campaign, statistics on domestic violence, and information about Zonta will be available at the Valencia Town Center display Nov. 25 through Dec. 10.
