Power Restored After Morning Outage
Power outage affected businesses in Bouquet Junction area.
UPDATED 2:13 p.m. Saturday
Two power outages struck the Santa Clarita Valley Saturday and are most likely linked to the rainstorms that came in the night and lasted into the morning.
Rudy Gonzalez of Edison said that power has been restored to 176 customers in the Bouquet Junction area after lightning struck a pole on Newhall Ranch Road, breaking a crossarm and knocking out power to the area at 7:03 a.m. Customers along Cinema Drive and Creekside Road were also affected by the outage. Power was restored at 11:21 a.m.
To add to the confusion and chaos at the junction, Santa Clarita Sheriff's Lt. Mark Hershey told KHTS that a power pole was knocked over in an 8 a.m. accident near Bouquet Canyon Road and Valencia Boulevard.
A second outage was caused by a lightning strike on Chrisco Avenue north of Sierra Highway. Wind and lightning knocked down two poles and their corresponding wires around 6:34 a.m. and 20 customers in the area are still without power. Gonzalez said that power is expected to be restored by 9 p.m. tonight.
