The Real Side with Joe Messina – April 2, 2013
Joe talked about all of the people saying that the economy is turning around but the use of food stamps is still high.
“We keep hearing about how the economy is turning around, people are getting back to work, look how many new jobs, well then we got a bunch of thieves for American citizens then,” Messina said. “Food stamps seem to be swelling even though they have told us that the economy is moving forward.”
Joining Joe on the show today was Economic analyst and financial commentator Frances Newton to discuss a recent Wall Street Journal Article that she wrote.
“It is interesting, basically if you compare poverty and food stamp numbers from 2007 and you compare them to today we actually have a discrepancy between the stock market highs and the poverty,” Newton said. “We have to ask ourselves what does that mean for the future.”
Newton said that part of the swell of food stamps has a political implication that can not be ignored.
“The republicans have their side of it and democrats have their side” Newton stated.
