Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – September 23, 2013
On today’s show, Alex Urbina and Wendy Amara sit down and discuss conscious parenting and making a plan for being a parent.
Do you have a plan for your child? What is it if you do? How do you know if it is working? How do you visualize it? How do you see your 18 year old son or daughter?
“Wow I haven’t thought about those questions that far ahead,” Wendy said.
But imagine if you did and had a plan to be conscious about parenting, Alex said.
When I had my first child we had plenty of plans and you have it all set, but slowly after they are born the plan starts to die.
“It is interesting you say die,” Wendy said. “But it does die becomes we slowly start to go away from the path we set forth.”
I want to talk about if we have a gameplan when it comes to parenting.
“I have the whole plan that she is going to college and have a great job, but there is another side of me that she may not go and become self made,” Wendy said.
There is so much fear in parenting, there is no rule or guide book. I’m afraid that if I teach my daughter to have an opinionated mind that she would use it against me.
At our school we believe in facilitating rather than teaching facts and what it should be, said Kim Shaw of SCVi Charter School.
“Discovery is the learning,” Shaw said.
