Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – July 15, 2013
On today’s show Alex and Wendy discuss the future of learning. Where is it headed and what will be available for students and those who want to get back into school.
In today’s society I think college is important but people today are creating jobs not just ones that are existing already, Wendy said.
Now there are so many avenues to have a good life and there is no longer one way you have to go to have a fulfilling life, Alex said.
As parents do we want to teach our kids to settle or create their own path, Alex said.
Books are becoming obsolete in terms of teaching and learning, because of technology, Amber Raskin of SCVi Charter said. When I hear of a new book I go on my tablet and order in from Amazon.
Our students now our native digitally and do not have any reference to what it used to be like and this forms their learning, Raskin said.
Reading is a huge part of learning but the shift is taking place where students do not get fed the information but need to seek it out.
One major shift that SCVi Charter is leading in is having their students/learners seek the information and not just having a traditional teacher lecture all day.
Learning is a constant process and children do not have to be in school more but make their time worth it.
The one thing that also help learning is have someone or a group to bounce of ideas and observations, Raskin said. Getting out and saying it out loud will help you learn it better for yourself.
