Domestic violence shelters provide safety for women and other families from domestic violence and usually take them in for thirty days at a time. If the aggressor finds them they are transferred to a safe location. One half million people were put in protection programs.
Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury among women. There is a need to teach how to approach dating to avoid domestic violence and how to respect women in a dating relationship. The Outreach Center provides support for couples in violent relationships. Often women ask in the center about whether it is normal for their boyfriends to control their finances or if their boyfriend is abusive whether this is a normal. Often the women hope that the relationship will improve or get better. There are also support groups for men where they can talk about the status of the relationship without shame.
