Part Of Old Town Newhall Getting Makeover

Streetscape project set to begin.

The City of Santa Clarita
is moving forward with plans to construct new "streetscape" for two blocks of Main
Street in Old Town Newhall.

Construction officially begins on Monday, March 16th and
will include street improvements from 6th Street
to 8th Street. The first
phase of the project is expected to be completed this summer.

Streetscaping can be described as a beautification project
that includes pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, street lighting, street furniture
and landscaping.

For the landscaping portion of the project, the
city must replace and improve the water and drainage system that supports the area,
which could cause some traffic delays.

According to the city, the streetscape project is
intended to transform the look and feel of Old Town Newhall as it burgeons into
an Arts & Entertainment District.

 "The City has
long-been committed to the revitalization of the Old Town Newhall area," said
Mayor Frank Ferry. "Along with the streetscape, we are moving forward with
future plans for additional services and a new library facility for the
community."

A construction office is open at 24261
Main Street to answer questions for Old Town
Newhall business owners, residents and customers.
