Life Leadership - December 2, 2013
Hosts: Alex Urbina and Wendy Amara
On today’s show Alex sits down with Amber Raskin, DIrector of SCVi Charter school and a few SCVi facilitators and discusses what it means to be creative and how to focus on bringing out creativity with students and young teens.
SCVi really strives in opening new possibilities for the students when it comes to art and being creative, Alex said.
That is really what we strive and take pride in, a SCVi facilitator said. This year our theme is to Dream Big.
What we keep telling our kids is to be open to failing, Raskin said. Not telling our kids to be okay with failing but to dream big and make an effort and that they might fail but to at least try.
Look at failing from a new perspective at the word fail.
Kids that grow up in dysfunctional homes tend to stop dreaming and have hope, Alex said. How do you as facilitators deal with those kids.
A lot of the time I throw out the curriculum and tell the kids to dream and learn how to fail and make sure the kids feel value in themselves, a facilitator said.
