Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – April 14, 2014
On today’s show Host Alex Urbina and co-host Wendy Amara sit down and talk with Amber Raskin, director of SCVi Charter School about parenting. Alex asked the question about parenting, what are you committed too? The on growing growth as a parent, also about relationships and marriages.
IN my mind I have two different parenting styles. One is the parent that has a child early in life because they know more than the child and tell themselves that because of that simple fact that is what qualifies them as a parent.
However, they haven’t developed as a whole person yet and struggle when trying to raise another person.
“I have heard that too,” Raskin said. “In the younger years parenting is a manager, and later it becomes a coaching style”
As you grow in life, you just gain better tools to teach to a developing person.
I tell my kids that I have learned so much from people I didn’t want to be than those I did, Raskin said.
Making mistakes ARE OKAY! Alex said. Some people don’t want to acknowledge them.
Many times people do not want to admit in front of their kids or to their kids that they have made mistakes.
Not everyone is not willing to own that.
Do you share that with your kids?
Some might not want to share because it might bring up topics or questions that you might be uncomfortable with or not ready for.
But then the question is how do you see mistakes. Are there opportunities to grow or are they stakes of failure?
