With the new year in full swing, Karena Thek and Crystal Lacy-Edwards wanted to tackle the issue of New Years Resolutions regarding health, fitness, and the brain. Your brain is more alert when you are fully active. Crystal Lacy-Edwards also notes that when someone first starts exercising, that they can even feel more sluggish, sore and exhausted than before they even began working out. This should not discourage anyone seeking a new and active lifestyle, because it takes time. Being physically active is a lifetime and full body process/experience, and there are so many different active brain processes that are running on high when someone sets down the potato chips, and goes for a run. Karena Thek described in detail that people who are out of shape (that used to be physically or moderately fit years ago) can easily push themselves too far. The reason why, is because certain geographic landmarks of the brain are working that very passionately remember their previous strength. That strength is not physically there if one hasn’t worked out in years, but the brain does not know that, the brain wants the body to work out and to be physically active. So Karena Thek and Crystal Lacy-Edwards imperatively repeat that if someone is overweight, or has decided to change their exercise regimen for the better (for whatever reason) needs to make sure they don’t push themselves, and to be patient as their body adjusts to new and positive changes. Even if these changes leave them a sweaty and sore mess at the end of the day.
