Hart's Tim White Falls Inches Shy Of CIF Triple Jump Title

khts_sportsHart’s Tim White fell a tad short of winning a CIF State title in the track and field championships at Buchanan High School in Clovis, but he battled to the very end.

White was the runner-up in the triple jump at the CIF State Track and Field Championship in Clovis. He broke the 50-foot barrier early in the meet and had the nation’s best jump at 51 feet, 5 inches.

Claremont’s Klyvens Delunay outjumped White at every opportunity and won the triple jump at 51 feet, 7 inches.

None of the athletes from the Santa Clarita Valley won a state title, but several had a successful meet.

Hart’s Austin O’Neil was seventh in the 1,600. West Ranch’s Nick Bultlman was eighth in the shot put. Karis Frankian from Saugus, making her fourth appearance in the CIF State meet, was 19th in the 3,200.

Alex Florent, a Harvard-Westlake freshman who lives in Santa Clarita, was fifth in the high jump.

In college golf, Valencia High grad Max Homa won his match, but his Cal Golden Bears lost to Alabama in the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship at Riviera Country Club.

Cal lost, 3-2, in the match play portion of the tournament. Homa won his match, 2 and 1, against Justin Thomas.

In auto racing, Alex Tagliani endured a long and challenging day in the Izod IndyCar Series race at Belle Isle Raceway in Michigan with a 10th-place finish.

The race was delayed nearly two hours to fix cracked patches on the pavement of the street course. Tagliani, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, qualified third for the race, but his car would not start at the beginning of the race. He eventually got his car out of the pits and had to rally through the field for his first top 10 of the season.

Dario Franchitti, the Indianapolis 500 champion, won the race at Belle Isle.

In the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, Canyon High grad Greg Pursley won the race at the Bullring in Las Vegas. The reigning West Series champion won his second race of the season.
