Academy Swim Club "Water Safety Expo"
When: Saturday, June 2 from 10am-2pm

Fire Station 126, 26320 Citrus Street (between Valencia & Magic Mountain)
Details:
At the Academy Swim Club Water Safety Expo, what you learn could save a life.  There will be lifeguard paramedic pool rescue demonstrations and presentations by emergency room physicians.  You’ll have the opportunity to sign up for swim lessons and CPR.  To lighten the mood of this important yet serious event, there will be radio Disney performers, games, food truck and prizes.  “Children drown without a sound”.  Click here to learn more about Academy Swim Club.

 

SCVInternationalCharterSchool – Kids Creating Art

Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School (SCVi), 28060 Hasley Canyon Road, Suite 200 in the Hasley Canyon Commerce Center
Details:
Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School is holding their Second Annual “Kids Creating Art” Festival.  This community-wide event showcases the talents of local youth and their art displays and hands-on activities.  Classrooms will be open for viewing student projects.  Admission is free, but there will be nominal fees to participate in some of the games and hands-on art projects.  Besides original art, there will be local youth bands, dramatic performances and martial arts demonstrations.  Your kids can enjoy the carnival games, reptile petting zoo, face painting, obstacle course and an opportunity to create art of their own.  Food trucks with a wide variety of specialties will be available.  Click here to learn more about “Kids Creating Art” and Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School.

SC Performing ArtsCenter – Martin Short

SCV Blues Festival

The 5th Annual Santa Clarita Valley Blues Festival brings us “hot rods and cool blues”.  Expect to hear some of Southern California's hottest blues bands.  The Festival will have a kid’s zone, fire truck rides, raffles, vendors and hot dogs.  Don’t miss the “Show and Shine Car Show”.  Admission is free.  Proceeds benefit the Tom Bolewski Special Needs Trust.  Click here to learn more about Tom and the SCV Blues Festival.

At Scout Expo 2012, you’ll “experience the fun, excitement and life-long learning offered by scouting”.  This event is free and fun for the entire family.  Local Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops will host booths featuring hands on activities.  Kids can experience:  crafts, sports, first aid, Monkey Bridge, cooking demonstrations and scout skills.  Parents can learn about the scouting program.  Click here for more information. 

Boys & Girls Club Benefit Auction

What: Canyon Theatre Guild “Thoroughly Modern Millie”

Where: Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details: The Canyon Theatre Guild brings us the Broadway Tony Award winning musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”.  The play takes place in New York during the roaring ‘20s.  It tells the story of Millie Dillmount, a shiny-faced new-comer to the big city.   Tickets are $15 for juniors/seniors and $17 for adults.  Some of the material presented may not be suitable for young children.  Canyon Theatre Guild is offering free tickets to the unemployed and their family, with proof of unemployment.  Click here for more information and tickets or call 661-799-2702.

What: Undergrounds Coffeehouse Show

What: Sheriff's "Stars & Stripes BBQ/Salsa Showdown"

The Showdown features: BBQ and Salsa Booths, a Kid’s Zone, food and drink vendors, live music, race car display, games, vendors and more.  With the purchase of a tasting card you can  sample the BBQ/Salsa entries and vote for their favorites for the People’s Choice Award in each category.  In addition to the food offered by the competitors, a variety of food vendors will offer everything from ice cream to barbeque.  The afternoon benefits:  Special Olympics, 999 For Kids, Wives Behind The Badge and LASD Motorsports.  Parking is free.  Sorry, no pets.
