Shakespeare Apprentice Company Announces Openings For New Blood

shakespeare_logo02High school students with a flair for the dramatic are being sought to join the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival Apprentice Company of this year's Summer Theatre Festival.

Building on the Apprentice Program from last year, the high school apprentices will perform the pre-show entertainment as well as join the cast of “Macbeth” and assist with the technical aspect of the summer production in July at the festival’s home in Towsley Canyon.

The Apprentice Company is a company comprised solely of high school students interested in all aspects of theatre and live events, including performance, lighting, sound, costumes, management, and front of house.

The students in the Apprentice Company will work with the professional theatre artists for the production of “Macbeth,” lending support for the production on stage and off. In addition the Apprentice Company will develop their own presentation for an exclusive performance during the festival.

“We are very excited to offer this program to the students of our valley,” said David Stears, the Executive Director for SCSF.  “It is a great opportunity for students to learn from more experienced performers and theatre artists.”

The Apprentice Company rehearsals begin June 11 and the production of “Macbeth” opens July 13, running weekends through July.

Participation in the Apprentice Company is free, however, enrollment is limited and restricted to high school students from the Santa Clarita Valley.
