The group arose bright and early headed to a morning briefing and breakfast with the Senator from California, Dianne Feinstein. Discussing local issues that pertain to our nation and Santa Clarita, local representatives had the opportunity to stress the importance of topics such as foreclosures, spending and the national budget deficit on our local community.

Following the breakfast briefing, the group met with key representatives from the Department of Transportation and the House Transportation Committee to discuss the impact of the high speed rail project in Santa Clarita and the expansion of the I-5 Freeway carpool and truck lanes.

TDCCAINhe group had the opportunity to meet with House Majority leader Eric Cantor, Congressman Buck McKeon and his staff to take a photo on the steps of the Capitol Building just before lunch at the Capitol Hill Club. Scattered through DC, SCV leaders ran into many notable figures including former 2012 Presidential Candidates Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann, both of whom were making an announcement endorsing Mitt Romney for the Presidency.

The afternoon was filled with meetings with a handful of key representatives from the work force and education committees discussing education spending, budget cuts and local unemployment. After the final meeting, the group observed from the gallery as McKeon introduced a bill in the House. The productive day was capped off with dinner at the Capitol Club with McKeon and a special briefing from John McCain.

DCMCCAINDay 2 began just as early as the first with a few morning meetings with the US Chamber of Commerce discussing issues such as local infrastructure, Congressional affairs, tax policy and the impact of small businesses policy on our valley. They also met with the housing committee discussing issues pertaining to real estate and local housing development.

One of the most pertinent topics discussed with Senators Boxer and Feinstein was the issue of local mining here in the Santa Clarita Valley. The local leaders of the SCV made their intentions and feelings known that they will fight and win this battle to eliminate any potential mining in our valley.

The final meeting of the day was held with the Department of Justice, hitting on such topics as No Child Left Behind, latchkey kids and local nonprofit organizations.
