Hart Swim Teams Sweep Foothill League Championships

khts_sportsThe Hart girls swim team won the Foothill League championship and Saugus freshman Abby Weitzeil set two school records at the league finals at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

Hart had its own freshman phenom in Mik Ranslem. She won two events, the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly, to lead Hart over second-place Saugus. She was also on the winning 400 freestyle relay team.

Weitzel won the 200 freestyle and lowered her own school record time to  1 minute, 48.23 seconds. She won the 500 freestyle in a school record 4 minutes, 54.87 seconds.

The Hart girls won the Foothill League title for the 30th time in the past 31 years.

The Hart boys won their 17th Foothill League championship in a row over second-place Valencia. The Indians won eight of the 11 events at the meet.

Jonathan Morsch from Saugus won two events, the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

In high school softball, West Ranch earned at least a share of its first Foothill League championship with a 6-4 win over Canyon at the Hart PONY Complex.

Julia Lombardi drove in two runs with two doubles for West Ranch. Haley Hineman hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

The Wildcats have a two-game lead in the Foothill League standings with two games to play.

The Saugus softball team is in second place after a 4-3, extra-inning win over Valencia.

Alyssa Rodriguez knocked in the winning run with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the ninth inning.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team beat Lennox, 5-4. Pam Ruffner drove in two runs, including the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In high school tennis, the Valencia boys won the singles and doubles titles at the Foothill League individual finals at The Paseo Club.

JR Macalutas won the singles title in straights sets, 6-2, 6-0, over teammate Joey Fernicola.

David Myers and Cameron Braun won the doubles title.

In high school baseball, Santa Clarita Christian lost to Milken, 3-1. It was the fourth loss in a row for Santa Clarita Christian, all against Heritage League teams.

The Trinity baseball team shut out Albert Einstein Academy, 15-0. Dakota Prochnow was 4-for-4, drove in two runs and hit an inside-the-park home run for Trinity.

In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Westmont, 7-4, and was eliminated from the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.

In hockey, the Kings doubled up on the St. Louis Blues, 4-2, in Game 3 the NHL Western Conference playoffs.

Drew Doughty had a goal and two assists. The Kings are up 3-0 in the series. Game 4 is at Staples Center on Sunday. The puck drops at noon.
