West Ranch, Saugus Baseball Teams Tied For First In Foothill League

The Saugus baseball team came-from-behind to beat Hart.

That leaves the Saugus and West Ranch baseball teams tied for first place in the Foothill League and puts Hart and Valencia in the backseat for the league title.

Cloney struck out a career high 12 batters against Valencia in a 7-0 shutout. He gave up only two hits in six innings and improved to 4-1 against the Foothill League.

Saugus scored two runs in the sixth inning and beat Hart, 3-2. Andru Cardenas drove in both runs in the sixth inning with a single.

Chris Devery hit a solo home run for Saugus in the fourth inning and scored on the single by Cardenas in the sixth.

The Canyon baseball team scored four runs in the seventh inning and rallied to beat Golden Valley, 9-7.

Cole Mears hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to give Canyon a two-run lead.

In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Concordia, 6-0, in Game 2 of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.

In high school ice hockey, Hart beat Valencia, 5-1, behind a three-point night from Joey Cicoria in the Ice Station Valencia league. He scored a goal and had two assists for Hart.

Hunter Jensen scored the lone goal for Valencia.

In other games, Saugus lost for the first time this season, 4-2, to Bakersfield. The Centurions were down 3-0 before scoring their first goal in the third period.

Canyon lost to the Northerners, 9-4.

In the NBA playoffs, the Clippers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, 105-98, in Game 2 of the Western Conference playoffs. OJ Mayo scored 20 points for the Grizzlies, 10 in the fourth quarter.

The series is tied 1-1 and heading to Staples Center.

In baseball, Angels pitcher Jered Weaver threw the first no-hitter of his career against the Minnesota Twins. The Angels won, 9-0, and Weaver allowed only two baserunners.

It was the 10th no-hitter thrown by an  Angel and the first since Ervin Santana’s no-hitter last year.

In hockey, the Kings are home against the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals.

The Kings are up 2-0 and are coming off a 5-2 win in Game 2 in St. Louis.

The puck drops at 7.
