Hart Girls Swim Team Tested By Saugus At Santa Clarita Relays

khts_sportsThe Hart girls swim team won the annual Santa Clarita Relays at the Aquatics Center, but Saugus tested the Indians until the final race of the meet.

Hart won the 200 medley relay and narrowly beat Saugus, 69-65. Valencia was third with 59 points. Hart trailed Saugus by one point entering the 200 medley relay, the final race of the meet. Hart’s team of Megan Schultz, Christine Lusk, Asia Antoniuk and Tamara Santoyo won the race and the meet for the Indians.

The Hart boys cruised to an 88-55 win over Valencia. The Indians won six events. West Ranch won the 4x50 breaststroke relay.

In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Vangaurd, 11-3. Vanguard scored nine runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.

Joe Riddle had two hits and drove in a run for The Master’s College, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA.

In college softball, College of the Canyons beat El Camino College, 9-6. Canyon High grad Jenny Wunderlich hit a home run and drove in three runs for COC.

It’s a huge day for high school baseball.

The Hart baseball team, in first place in the Foothill League standings, is on the road against Valencia.

The Saugus baseball team travels to Canyon. West Ranch plays at Golden Valley.

Saugus, Valencia and West Ranch are tied for second place in the Foothill League standings.

The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team plays Pacifica at The Master’s College. The Trinity baseball team is at Valley Torah.

In youth tennis, the Santa Clarita Valley Tennis Aces Juniors had three players finish in the top 10 at the USTA Rancho Cienega Junior Spring Tennis Tournament.

Cole Plasschaert was the runner-up in the boys 10-and-under tournament. Grace Alcedo was second in the girls 10-and-under tournament. Nine-year-old Connor Schloemer was eighth in the 12-and-under tournament.

In soccer, the Santa Clarita Storm shut out the Fullerton Rangers, 2-0. Tyler Coombes and Alex Harlley scored the goals for the Storm. Their next game is against F.C. Hasental at Cal Lutheran University on Saturday.

In hockey, the Kings are preparing for the second round of the NHL Western Conference playoffs against the Blues. The Blues are preparing to play without goaltender Jaroslav Halak, according to reports.

Halak will miss the first two games of the series. Blues back-up goaltender Brian Elliott had nine shutouts and led the NHL with a 1.56 goals against average in the regular season.
