Three Canyon Country Women Rescued From Pyramid Lake

Three Canyon Country women out for a swim Friday afternoon are re-thinking their workout plans after being rescued from the frigid waters of Pyramid Lake.

Around 12:30 p.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau observed the three women in the water at the main boating channel, which is 40 yards from the shore.

Noticing that the trio was starting to show the effects of hypothermia and exhaustion from treading water and trying to stay afloat, the deputies pulled the women from the 53-degree water onto their rescue boat. They administered first aid and treated the swimmers for hypothermia.

Although the women – two adults, one 21 and another 19, and a young 11-year old girl -  refused further treatment, they told deputies that they thought it was OK to swim in the lake. Deputies advised them that they were in a no swimming area and the temperature of the water was at a dangerously cold temperature for them to be swimming.

After being advised by the deputies, the women left the recreation area.
