Sudden Storm Causes Grapevine Closure, Could Bring Snow To Low Levels

Weather-WatchNumerous showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue across Los Angeles County into the evening Monday, bringing brief heavy downpours, gusty wind and accumulating hail.

This storm is predicted to drift northeast, bringing with it snowfalls as low as 2,000 feet. The low snow levels will likely impact portions of I-5 from north of Castaic to the Grapevine.

The California Highway Patrol closed the Grapevine around 2 p.m. after showfall sticking created hazardous driving conditions. Northbound traffic was turned around at Hasley Canyon Road.

The snow will also affect Highway 138 across the foothills of the Antelope Valley. Portions of the AV desert floor could see a mixture of sleet, ice pellets and snowfall this afternoon and evening.

Temperatures are expected to rise tomorrow, with light showers anticipated and temperatures in the high 50s.
