Providence Nursing Institute Director To Moderate Town Hall On Improving Health Care

PROVIDENCE-LOGO_320x240Kathleen Harren, R.N., director of Providence Health & Services’ new Providence Nursing Institute, will lead a panel discussion on Monday, Feb. 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce in downtown Los Angeles on the statewide Future of Nursing Report, aimed at advancing nursing through education and collaboration.

Harren will lead a panel of educators, physicians and nurses who will discuss the implementation of the California Action Coalition’s Future of Nursing report and its impacts on improving healthcare.

“I’m really honored to moderate such an important forum,” Harren said. “Advancing the field of nursing so that Americans can have increased access to high quality, patient-centered care is a priority across this country, and nurses are essential partners with patients, families and physicians in achieving success.”

The town hall gathering, titled “Partner with Nurses for a Healthy California," will be held at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. It is sponsored by several healthcare organizations and nonprofit advocacy groups including the CAC and the Hospital Association of Southern California.

The 2011 Future of Nursing report recommends higher levels of education and training for nurses, recognition of nurses as full partners among physicians and other health care professionals in redesigning America’s healthcare system, improved information technology and innovative ways to improve health care. It advocates for empowering nurses across-the-board, from the board room to the bedside.

Harren, former chief nursing officer at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, was named in December to lead the new Providence Nursing Institute, established to advance quality patient care through professional development, education, technology and research.

The event begins with registration and lunch from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by the town hall meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Register online, by phone at 213-538-0705 or fax 213-482-8537. The L.A. Chamber of Commerce is located at 350 Bixel Street, Los Angeles 90017. The garage entrance is off 4th Street, and parking will be validated.
