SCV Fishing Report February 7th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report
1) Castaic Lake....A couple weeks ago was the last trout plant here. Fishing has remained fair to good. There was a big 13 pound largemouth bass caught recently by a Valencia resident! However, the bass fishing along with all other species has been on the slow side.
2) Pyramid Lake....Trout were planted here about three weeks ago. The best location for catching trout is in the Marina area. The Inlet and Marina areas are holding some striped bass in the 1-6 pound size. Bass, catfish and bluegill fishing remain slow.
3) Lake Piru....Nothing has changed since last week. Some fair bass action in deep water. Other than that...it's slow fishing for everything else, with very few anglers here.
4) Lake Cachuma....There's an improved largemouth and smallmouth bass bite in shallow water. Also, a few crappie bites, with some up to 2 pounds. There's been some limits of trout for trollers. The best areas for trolling are the Dam, Santa Cruz Point and Cachuma Bay. Slow for all other species.
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:
There's live squid available, and with it comes an improved bite on the bass. The boats from Long Beach and San Pedro are scoring on calico bass, sand bass, sculpin and the occassional wayward halibut. There's also plenty of sanddabs for anglers that wish to target them.
It's still dabs and crabs! All the sanddabs you want plus rock crabs on the combo trips. Most boats are doing their yearly maintenance in anticipation of the March 1st opening of rockfish and lingcod. It will be busy come March!
........well, that's it for this weeks fish report, Halibut Hal reporting for KHTS-1220AM.
