Changes Could Be Coming For High School Football Playoffs
The high school football playoffs might be getting a makeover.
The CIF Southern Section is considering adding a new league to the Northern Division and moving the Marmonte League to the Pac-5 Division for the 2012 football season.
The Foothill League would remain in the Northern Division with the Golden League and Bay League. But the Marmonte League, which has won the past three Northern Division championships with Westlake and Oaks Christian, would move to the top division in the Southern Section.
The Southern Section is considering a proposal that would add one league to the Northern Division, possibly the Pac-7 League, which includes Arroyo Grande, the reigning Western Division champion.
In high school soccer, the Trinity girls lost to Hillcrest Christian of Granada Hills, 1-0. It was the fourth Heritage League loss in a row for Trinity.
It’s a packed night of high school basketball in the Foothill League.
The Hart boys, fresh off snapping Canyon’s 12-game winning streak, travels to West Ranch, which is tied for first place in the league standings with Canyon.
The Cowboys will look to rebound against a tough Saugus team.
Golden Valley is on the road against Valencia.
The Canyon girls will look to keep their undefeated league record in tact at home against Saugus. The West Ranch girls are home for a game against Hart. Golden Valley travels to Valencia.
In hockey, Kings goalie Jonathan Quick was selected by Team Alfredsson in the NHL All-Star game. Daniel Alfredsson and Zdeno Chara, the team captains for the two all-star teams, selelcted players in a draft-style.
Quick, the only King on the all-star team, was the sixth player picked overall.
The NHL All-Star game is Sunday in Ottawa.
