Culture Night Set January 20 At Newhall Community Center
Community families are invited to learn about international traditions and cuisines at the City of Santa Clarita’s 7th annual Culture Night at the Newhall Community Center starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 20.
“The annual event is hosted to communicate the importance of tolerance and respect for cultures around the world, as well as to empower and assist community members in eliminating all forms of discrimination,” commented Mayor Laurie Ender. “A cultural exchange of dance, music, art and food is a great way to teach residents about diversity,” she continued.

Centered on this year’s theme of, “Dances from Around the World,” attendees will enjoy performances showcasing cultures from Brazil, Rwanda and other regions of Africa, Japan and Mexico, and the Pacific Islands.
International dishes are being donated by local restaurants including El Pariente, Jam West Caribbean Foods, and Persia Restaurant. Community Center members will supply other dishes to provide a variety of options for participants who want to sample additional cultures like homemade sushi.
Youth can also delve into the Mexican, Asian, and African cultures through fun arts and crafts projects. Activities range from creating Mexican decorations to coloring a Chinese New Year Dragon and African Mask, amongst other culturally inspired crafts.
Culture Night passports will be given to participating youth ages five and up to visit various activity stations for stamps. After visiting every station, youth can trade-in their stamped passports for a prize.
