Saugus Boys Basketball Team Opens La Canada Tournament With A Win
The Saugus boys basketball team started the La Canada Tournament on winning note. The Centurions beat Glendale, 70-49, in the first round of the tournament.
Jeremy Gatewood scored 22 points and teammate Chris Lockwood had 16.
Saugus plays Bonita in the second round of the tournament today.
The Hart boys basketball team, playing without its freshman point guard, lost to Highland, 75-72.
Myles Franklin sat out the game recovering from a concussion he sustained against Crescenta Valley on Friday.
Hart’s Lewis Stallworth led all scorers with 27 points. Austin Maly added 24.
The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team beat Pilgrim, 49-41, behind a double-double from James Brooks. He scored 20 points and had 22 rebounds.
Trinity is back on the court tonight against Grace Brethren.
On the girls side, Golden Valley beat Village Christian, 64-33. Janae Dean had another big game with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley Oliver scored 11 points.
The Kings have a new coach, but the results remain the same. The Kings lost to the Boston Bruins, 3-0, under interim head coach John Stevens, who took over the team after Terry Murray was fired.
The Kings have lost five games in a row and are in the middle of a four-game road trip.
The search for a new head coach is pointing toward Calgary. The Kings have asked permission to talk to Darryl Sutter, who was the general manager of the Flames last season.
Meanwhile the Kings continue their road trip in Columbus to face the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
