Canyon Boys Basketball Team Crushes Eagle Rock In Classic Tournament
The Canyon boys basketball team overpowered and undersized Eagle Rock team, 66-28, in the 12th annual Canyon Classic tournament.
Sophomore Dean Hendrix-Davis scored a game-high 12 points and Canyon forced 34 turnovers against Eagle Rock.
Canyon faces Lancaster tonight as the Canyon Classic continues.
The undermanned Valencia boys beat Quartz Hill, 86-70, behind 31 points from Zach Davis. Two Valencia players missed the game, including point guard Jaleel Howard who has a broken foot.
Valencia’s Troy Hammel poured in 25 points, 18 in the second half, as the Vikings pulled away late in the game.
Valencia plays Grant tonight on the third day of the Canyon Classic.
The Saugus boys basketball team won its season opener, 66-25, over Besant Hill in the Oak Park Tournament. Matt Coleman had 14 points.
On the girls side, Golden Valley beat Panorama, 51-21, in the Lady Grizzlies Tournament. Janae Dean recorded a double-double for Golden Valley with 20 points and 20 rebounds.
In high school soccer, the Saugus boys beat Newbury Park, 2-1.
Santa Clarita Christian got a hat trick plus two assists from Daniel Stratton in a 6-1 win over Desert High.
The Canyon boys were shut out by Chaminade, 1-0.
The Hart girls won their first game of the season, 2-0, over Quartz Hill. Ally Perez scored both goals for Hart.
The Golden Valley girls shut out Lancaster, 1-0.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls shut out Desert, 8-0. Collette Blake scored four goals for Santa Clarita Christian.
In college basketball, The Master’s College men pulled off an upset in their Golden State Athletic Conference opener. The Master’s College beat Biola, the 15th ranked team in the NAIA, 61-55, behind 15 points from Anthony Cammon.
The Master’s College was down by three points at halftime, but outscored Biola, 30-21, in the second half.
The Master’s College women’s basketball team beat Cal State San Marcos, 57-47. Zoe Scott scored a team-high 16 points for The Master’s College.
In ice hockey, the Valencia Flyers lost three games to the Fresno Monsters, but Saugus High junior Austin Ehrlich scored a couple goals in the first game.
The Flyers lost the first game, 8-2. Ehrlich scored both goals for the Flyers. The Flyers lost the second game, 5-2, and the third game by the same score, 5-2.
The Flyers are back on the ice on Friday night against the San Diego Gulls at the Ice Station Valencia.
In the NHL, the Kings lost a heartbreaker to the Ducks, 3-2, after Bobby Ryan scored the game-winner with under a minute to play.
The Kings tied the score, 2-2, on a goal by Justin Williams in the third period. But the Ducks won the game when Ryan’s second goal came with 48 seconds left to play.
The Kings will try to snap their little two-game losing streak against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
