Golden Valley Girls Basketball Team Opens Lady Grizzlies Tournament With Win

khts_sportsThe Golden Valley girls basketball team opened the Lady Grizzlies Tournament with a win over Simi Valley, 53-49.

Janae Dean scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Golden Valley on the first day of the tournament. Teammate Theresa Ohaya scored 12 points and had 19 rebounds.

Golden Valley plays Panorama High today in the second day of the tournament.

The Albert Einstein Academy beat Delphi, 37-32, to win its first varsity boys basketball game in school history. Pal Edelstein scored 11 poonts to lead Einstein.

In high school soccer, the West Ranch girls beat Simi Valley, 2-1. Taylor Ayers assisted on both goals. The first was scored by Noelle Weber. Kylee MacArthur scored the second goal for West Ranch.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost its first game of the season, 71-65, to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Master’s College was down 20 points in the first half, but rallied and outscored Mudd-Scripps, 44-30, in the second half.

Anthony Cammon scored 20 points to lead The Master’s College. Leif Karlberg scored 17 points and hit five 3-pointers.

The Master’s College women’s basketball team lost to San Diego Christian, 67-62, in its Golden State Athletic Conference opener.

Ella Joines scored 14 points and Whitney Best had 13 points and six assists for The Master’s College.

In baseball, the Dodgers have been busy in the winter meetings. They added more depth to their infield by signing veteran Jerry Hairston Jr. to a two-year deal. He can play second base, third base and the outfield. The Dodgers signed utility infielder Adam Kennedy last week.

The Dodgers are also close to signing pitcher Aaron Harang to add depth to its starting rotation and have some insurance in case Hiroki Kuroda decides to not return to the team. The Dodgers also signed Chris Capuano to join Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley and Ted Lilly in the starting rotation.

In hockey, the Kings are on the road to play the Anaheim Ducks tonight. The Kings have won two of their past three games, but lost to the Montreal Canadiens, 2-1, on Saturday.
