Canyon Girls Basketball Team Opens With Win In Fresno Tournament
The Canyon and Valencia girls basketball teams are off to impressive starts in a couple of tournaments.
The Canyon girls beat Clovis East, 76-32, in the first round of the Nike Central Valley Showdown in Fresno.
Jaya Schultz led three players from Canyon in double figures. She had 25 points. Tiffini Stone scored 19 and Alia McCoy had 13.
The Valencia girls basketball team beat Palmdale, 67-20, in the opening round of the High-Five Classic. Kalia Summerlin led the Vikings with 22 points.
The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team beat Concordia of Sylmar, 62-32, in its own Tip-Off Tournament. Freshman Matthew Arroyave scored 20 points and had nine steals for Trinity.
In high school soccer, the Canyon girls won their season opener, 2-1, over Lancaster.
Kaila Sargema scored two goals for Canyon and Alissa Mungia assisted on both goals.
The Hart boys beat Moorpark, 2-1, in their season opener. Hart’s Eddie Castillo gave his team a 1-0 lead in the first half. Nico Ferrero scored for Hart early in the second half to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.
The Santa Clarita Christian boys soccer team tied LA Baptist, 1-1. Daniel Stratton scored for Santa Clarita Christian.
In baseball, the Dodgers signed former Angel Adam Kennedy to a one-year deal. Kennedy will be a utility infielder on the Dodgers playing primarily second and third base. He was on the Angels 2002 World Series team and played his college ball at Cal State Northridge.
The Kings won on the ice, but lost two key players to injury last night against the Panthers. The Kings beat the visiting Panthers, 2-1, on goals from Jack Johnson and Dustin Brown.
But defenseman Willie Mitchell and newly acquired forward Mike Richards left the game with injuries. Neither player returned to the game. Richards took a hit to the head and will be evaluated further today.
The Kings take on the Montreal Canadiens at Staples Center at 12:30 on Saturday afternoon.
