Small Business Saturday Is The New Black Friday

small_biz_saturdayBusiness owners are urging Americans to “think small” this Saturday, as in small business.

Saturday November 26 has been designated The 2nd annual Small Business Saturday -- a day dedicated to supporting small businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

Think of Saturday as the new black, Black Friday that is.

On November 26, local organizations such as the College of the Canyons Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is asking Santa Clarita residents to shop at local stores and help fuel the economy.

According to the SBDC small business have generated two out of the three net new jobs over the past 15 years and employ over half of all private sector employees.

American Express Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kenneth I. Chenault launched the nationwide initiative in the beginning of November saying small businesses are among the hardest hit by the recession.

“By spreading the word about Small Business Saturday, we can help raise awareness about the critical role small businesses play in cities and towns across the country at a time when they need support the most,” said Mr. Chenault.
