Egg Plantation Goes Green For The Environment
The California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery recognized Egg Plantation in Old Town Newhall as one of the winners of the Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) for outstanding environmental business practices.
“The City of Santa Clarita is honored to have a local business awarded for its commitment to promoting environmental sustainability in our community. Egg Plantation exemplifies how other businesses can implement methods of reducing and recycling waste,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean.

Although the local business welcomes 2,500 visitors weekly, Egg Plantation promotes green practices by recycling used oil and food waste, and conserving water and energy. One way Egg Plantation helps conserve water is by serving complimentary water to customers only upon request, which saves approximately $1,000 a year. With green flooring, low-flush toilets, decomposable to-go containers, and even uniforms made of recyclable materials, Egg Plantation is one of the most environmentally friendly businesses in Santa Clarita.
“As a business owner, I feel a real sense of community in Old Town Newhall,” says Shannon Mee, co-owner of Egg Plantation. “The community has given back to us, and we wanted to give back to the community through green business practices. At the end of the day our environmental efforts help make Santa Clarita a better place to live,” she added.
Certificates and window decals are provided to WRAP award-winners to notify customers of their dedication to environmental sustainability. The combined green efforts of businesses throughout California help reduce millions of tons of waste produced by the commercial sector each year. Since 1993, WRAP has recognized over 275 businesses each year based on their reported waste prevention mechanisms, recycling efforts, composting and educational outreach activities.
