COC Women's Soccer Team Takes On San Bernardino In CCCAA Playoffs

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons women’s soccer team is playing San Bernardino College in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Associations playoffs today.

COC shut out Antelope Valley College, 2-0, in the first round. Sarah Sager and Sydney Tobin each scored a goal for COC.

The game between COC and San Bernardino is at College of the Canyons. Kickoff is set for 2 this afternoon.

Two players from the Santa Clarita Valley Tennis Aces reached the semifinals of the seventh annual Ramada Junior Novice Tournament in Claremont over the weekend.

Connor Schloemer, a third-grader from Stevenson Ranch, finished in third place in the boys under-8 tournament. He won three of four matches, including one over tournament champion Dylan Ojeda from Anaheim Hills.

Grace Alcedo of Valencia, a third-grader at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, also finished third in the girls under-8 tournament.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men beat Lewis and Clark, 65-49, to improve to 5-0 on the season. Devin Dyer led The Master’s College with 15 points and had five rebounds.

Three runners from The Master’s College earned All American honors after the NAIA national championship meet at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Washington.

Saugus High graduate John Gilbertson and Hart High graduate Anthony Rizzo finished in the top five at the meet and paced The Master’s College to a 10th-place finish in the team portion.

Gilbertson finished in third place and earned his second All-American honor. Rizzo was fifth and also earned a spot on the All-American team for the second year in a row.

On the women’s side, Holly Kopp finished in 23rd and led The Master’s College team to a 10th-place finish. She is the first female runner from The Master’s College to earn a spot on the All-American cross country team.

The Kings are on the road for a game against the St. Louis Blues tonight. The Kings are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. On a positive note, the Kings have won three of their past four games.

The Blues lost, 3-2 in a shootout , to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. But like the Kings, the Blues have won three of their past four.
