Triumph Over Hospital Holiday Blues
The Triumph Foundation wants to make the holiday season triumphant with their 2011 Christmas Outreach.
“A big part of our outreach is around Christmas time. We go visit people in the hospital who've recently become paralyzed and we throw a little party for them,” said Andrew Skinner, Triumph Foundation Co-Founder.
Triumph delivers care baskets that are like tool kits. They provide patients with the information and resources they’ll need during their recovery and new way of life.
“And we give out gifts and goodies to help raise their spirits,” Skinner said.
That’s where folks with the holiday spirit can help.
The Triumph Foundation will be going to multiple hospitals this year to deliver around 75 baskets. They would like to include candy, popcorn, cookies, brownies, and other things that spread the holiday cheer. Besides treats, other gift suggestions include toiletry items such as hand sanitizer and lip balm. Home baked items are welcome too along with small board games.
“This is a great way to give this Christmas without breaking the piggy bank, and knowing it is really going to someone in need,” said Skinner.

Skinner suffered a spinal cord injury seven years ago. He and his wife Kirsten started the Triumph Foundation to pay forward all the love and support they got from family, friends and the community.
“When I got hurt, I had spent my Christmas in the hospital, so this outreach is near and dear to my heart,” Skinner said.
Items for the gift baskets need to be collected by December 7. Baskets will be put together on Friday, December 9. Volunteer help would be appreciated.
