Race To Find Find Families For Homeless Pets
Ready! Set! Adopt!
Animal shelters and care centers across LA County, Orange County, Riverside County, and Ventura County are joining together in a race to find homes for 5,000 shelter animals by the end of November.
The Fall 5000 Super Adoption will be kicked off this weekend at participating shelters offering special services to help families choose a pet to adopt. November 4-6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., shelters will feature discounted adoption fees, free training advice, no-cost adoptions for veterans, personal “matchmakers” who will help find the perfect fit for each family, and giveaways for adopters.

An adoption information form offered to families will take into account families’ residence, children’s ages, pet preferences, and current pets in order to help “matchmakers” suggest the best pets for each.
“Matchmakers are there to ensure safe and informed, happy and long term adoptions,” said Kyle Harris, owner of Kyle’s Custom Critter Care, and volunteer at the Castaic Animal Care Shelter.
“We encourage whole families to come. We want people to adopt as a family. Bring mom, dad, and the kids!” said Harris.
Behavior trainers will be available in designated areas to answer questions from guests and assist adopters. Those adopting dogs of all breeds are encouraged to consult with a behavior trainer, especially first-time adopters, adopters of “bully” breeds, adopters with other pets already at home.
Adopters interested in a pet that is not yet available can leave their information with the shelter and fill out “Come Back For Me” cards. These pets often need to be spayed, neutered or have their vaccinations brought up to date.
