Ducks Dash For Dixon Docs

Thousands of yellow rubber ducks sporting sunglasses raced across Castaic Lake on Saturday, raising more than $30,000 to help provide healthcare for the needy in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Supporters, competitors and fun-seekers gathered along the banks of Castaic Lake for the 9th annual Rubber Ducky Festival as more than 4,000 ducks were dumped into the lower lagoon.

"The Rubber Ducky Festival is a fundraiser for the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers. We’ve been doing it for nine years. Our objective is to raise some funds to subsidize our program of servicing people who are uninsured or underinsured for health services,” said Edward Bolden, Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers Board President.

This year’s grand prize winner was Mike Mainland, who received a week-long vacation for four to his choice of either Palm Desert or Lake Tahoe.

Other prizes included a family four-pack of tickets to Six Flags Magic Mountain, car washes at Valencia Auto Spa and coupons for local day spas.
