Golden Valley's Earl Johnson Sets School Rushing Record In Loss To San Marino

khts_sportsGolden Valley running back Earl Johnson broke the school record for rushing, but the Grizzlies lost to San Marino, 38-20, last night.

Johnson rushed for 345 yards, breaking the mark of 202 yards set by Jeff Coprich last year. He scored a touchdown in the third quarter to give Golden Valley a 20-10 lead.

San Marino scored 28 unanswered points in the second half and took advantage of seven Golden Valley turnovers.

The Canyon football team shut out Dos Pueblos, 42-0, behind a two-touchdown game from Brenden Stach.

He caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Jonathan Jerozal and finished with four catches for 69 yards.

Jerozal threw for a season-high 305 yards and four touchdowns and Canyon improved to 5-0 heading into Foothill League play.

The College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team lost to Citrus College in four games in the Western State Conference South opener for both teams.

Citrus College won the first game, but COC evened the match by winning the second game. Citrus went on to win the next two games and the match.

COC setter Ariane Labryzki had 42 assists and seven kills.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men, ranked No. 24 in the NAIA, played to a scoreless tie against Westmont.

The Master’s College goalkeeper Andrew Bussell made four saves and held Westmont scoreless in regulation and two overtime periods.

In high school golf, the Valencia girls won the Foothill League match at El Cariso Golf Course in Sylmar by six strokes over West Ranch. Valencia shot 201 as a team. West Ranch shot 207.

Hart’s Kendell Dusenberry shot the low round of the match, a 2-over par 33. Allie Jin shot the low round for Valencia, 5-over par 36.

In girls volleyball, Saugus swept Canyon in three games to stay undefeated in Foothill League play. Jaclyn Clark had 11 kills and six blocks to lead Saugus.

The West Ranch girls beat Hart in four games to keep pace with Saugus at 3-0 in league. Angel Rutledge had 14 kills to lead West Ranch.

In hockey, the Kings open the NHL season against the New York Rangers in Stockholm, Sweden, this morning.
