City Intern Receives Prestigious Scholarship

Chelsea_WoodsThe California City Management Foundation (CCMF) has awarded one of two prestigious Wes McClure Scholarships to City of Santa Clarita employee Chelsea Wood.

Woods is one of two local city employees to receive the Wes McClure Scholarship, which recognizes students with an interest in city management and public service in local government.

“The City of Santa Clarita is focused on developing and mentoring employees to further their careers in local government,” commented City Manager Ken Pulskamp. “Excellence in city management starts with a strong foundation and the Wes McClure scholarship is a wonderful way to help upcoming city leaders fund their college education.”

Wood is an intern in City Manager’s Office and a student in the Master of Public Administration program at the University of Southern California.  Upon graduation, she aspires to pursue a career in local government, specifically in city management.

The scholarship is in honor of Wes McClure, former City Manager of San Leandro.  McClure is known for his great contributions to the city management profession, including being founder of CCMF.

“We are very pleased to have had a large contingent of applications for this inaugural year of the scholarship,” says Wade McKinney, president of CCMF.  “We look forward to supporting the future generations of city leaders.”
