Military Career Workshop Set For Oct. 20
A workshop sponsored by the U.S. Army, local educators and political representatives and designed to help job-seekers explore education and career options in the military is set for the Golden Valley High School Theater on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The event will open with a meet-and-greet social hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Dr. Lance Izumi from the California Community College Chancellor's Office will moderate a panel discussion on military recruitment practices and career opportunities from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The workshop will provide free career counseling information, and detail what federal, state and local resources are available free to students and families. A certificate will be awarded to participants at the close of the workshop.

A second panel on career and education programs will be presented by Americorps, the California Conservation Corps, College of the Canyons, the National Job Corps and the U.S. Army Recruiting Command.
Targeting parents, grades 7-14 educators, students, graduate students and all interested commuinity members, the workshop is co-sponsored by the William S. Hart Union High School District, COC, Golden Valley High, L.A. County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, U.S. Congressman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon and California State Assemblyman Cameron Smyth.
