Saugus Girls Volleyball Team Wins Own Tournament

khts_sportsThe Saugus girls volleyball team won their own tournament over the weekend, defeating Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 25-21, 25-22, in the championship match.

Saugus setter Ashley Guthrie recorded 24 assists against Notre Dame and earned tournament MVP. Ashley Pagan also earned a spot on the all-tournament team for Saugus.

The Valencia girls volleyball team finished in seventh place in the La Jolla Beach City Inviational, going 5-2 in the tournament and losing in the quarterfinals to Vista Murrieta.

In high school tennis,  the West Ranch girls captured the Valencia Fall Brawl behind No. 1 singles player Ana Cecilia Fuentes. But Valencia and Golden Valley had reasons to celebrate as well.

Fuentes reached the final match of the singles portion of the tournament. Teammate Julia Lynch won the consolation singles final.

The doubles team of Michelle Savage and Shenelle Trujillo won the doubles title for Valencia.

Golden Valley’s Rebecca Ho defeated Fuentes, 8-0, in the singles final.

In high school golf, the West Ranch girls beat Hart by 10 strokes, 204-214, in a match at Vista Valencia. Hart’s Jamie Corr shot the low round of the day with a 1-over par 32.

Julie Ward led West Ranch with a 7-over par 38 and teammate Jackie King shot 8-over par 39.

In high school football, Canyon moved up to No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll after a 52-28 win over Camarillo.

Five teams from the Foothill League are ranked in the top 10 of the Northern Division poll.

West Ranch is undefeated at 4-0 and is ranked No. 7.

Hart has won three games in a row and is No. 8. Valencia won its first game of the season and comes in at No. 9. Saugus rounds out the rankings at No. 10.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men played to a scoreless tie against Cal State San Marcos. The two teams played two overtime periods after finishing regulation without scoring.

The Master’s College kept its unbeaten streak in tact and ran its record to 7-0-1.

The Master’s College women lost to Cal State San Marcos, 1-0.

The College of the Canyons men’s team tied Comption, 1-1, and remained unbeaten at 2-0-4.

In baseball, the Angels were eliminated from playoff contention with a 4-3 loss to the Rangers.
