SCV Community Expo
When: Saturday, September 17 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, September 18 from 10am-3pm
Where: Santa Clarita Sports Complex, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway
Details: This marks the 27th year of the SCV Community Expo. The Taste of Expo will be Friday, September 16 from 5-9pm, and is considered Santa Clarita’s largest business mixer featuring delicious food and drinks from 30 restaurants and caterers. On both days of the Expo, stroll the exhibits that showcase more than 100 exhibitors. On Saturday, take part in the Fall 2011 Job, Career & Intern Fair from 10am-2pm. Saturday also offers free flu shots for seniors and, as part of Family Fun Day, a Mad Dog Party for the kids and community stage performances. Sunday features the Expo Beer Garden & Food Truck Fest and musical entertainment.
Boy Scouts –Leaders of Character
When: Saturday, September 17 at 6pm
Where: Hyatt Regency Valencia
Details: Six outstanding members of our Santa Clarita community will be honored at the 6th Annual Leaders of Character Recognition Dinner benefiting local Boy Scouts of America. This event is sponsored by Total Financial Solutions. This year’s Leaders of Character honorees include Kerry & Kristie Carmody, Don & Cheri Fleming, and Laurene Weste and Jim McCarthy. Through their devotion to family, faith and community, they exemplify the traits found in the Scout Law. The evening offers a unique “virtual auction”. Click here for more information on tickets. LARC Ranch - Reggae Splash
When: Sunday, September 18 starting at 1pm
Where: LARC Ranch, 29890 North Bouquet Canyon Road
Details: Reggae Splash at LARC Ranch will have you singing, dancing and glad to be alive. The afternoon starts with a luncheon and dessert extravaganza. The afternoon then moves into live reggae/ska music from the band See Spot. Proceeds benefit LARC Ranch programs, facilities and services for developmentally disabled adults. OLPH Annual BBQ

Where: Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 23233 Lyons Avenue in Newhall
Details: This is the 67th Annual BBQ at OLPH – so, you know they know how to do a BBQ. They will have spectacular live entertainment, carnival rides and games for all ages. The BBQ is known for delicious foods from many cultures. The OLPH BBQ is fun for the whole family!
Teen Scene Unplugged
When: Wednesday, September 14 from 6-8pm
Where: Golden Valley High School, 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway
Details: The teen years are a worry to parents. Teen Scene Unplugged can help parents learn coping skills to get through the teen years. Your questions and concerns will be answered. At this 11th Annual Teen Scene Unplugged, “Stacy Kaiser, nationally known speaker, author and psychotherapist will provide strategies and tips on facing the realities and challenges of parenting teens head on.” Parents will be given ten things every parent needs to know to raise a successful adult. This is a free program. From 6-7pm there is a Resource Fair and the Program/Presentation runs from 7-8pm. All parents are welcome. Click here for more information.
Brittany Foundation-Comedy For Canines

Where: JR’s Comedy Club inside Marie Callender’s,27630 The Old Road
Details: Have some laughs and help the homeless animals of Brittany Foundation. Come to the Comedy for Canines night at JR’s Comedy Club. The Brittany Foundation rescues, rehabilitates and provides safe shelter for homeless, abused and abandoned dogs. The show is for ages 18 and over but 16/17 year olds can attend with a parent or guardian. Tickets are $20 each plus a two item, food and/or drink minimum. Details: Dust off your colonial wear and join the fun at the Constitution Day Summit. On September 17, 1787 out Constitution was signed by 39 brave men who changed the course of history. On September 17, 2011 the Santa Clarita Valley will continue their legacy and develop habits of good citizenship in a new generation. Join in and step back in time to a September 17, 1787 state of mind. This family friendly event is free. Bring the kids to ‘meet’ our founding Fathers & Mothers. What: Lisa DeLong – “Blood Brothers” Book Signing

Where: Barnes & Noble Book Store on Valencia Boulevard at Magic Mountain Parkway
Details: Santa Clarita resident and author Lisa Solis DeLong shares the story in her book, Blood Brothers, of life with two sons diagnosed with leukemia. The book speaks of the struggles the family endured and even triumphed from this unimaginable tragedy. Lisa DeLong is a mother, registered nurse, author and bereavement facilitator. Details: Help maintain a portion of the Santa Clarita River at River Rally 2011. The Santa Clarita River is one of the last natural rivers in Southern California. Details: This month’s theme is “Hollywood”. Every third Thursday SENSES comes to us at Old Town Newhall. SENSES is designed to heighten your sense of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound.
