Saugus Football Team Opens Against Burroughs Of Burbank Tonight

khts_sportsThe high school football season begins tonight with Saugus against Burroughs from Burbank at College of the Canyons.

Saugus is coming off a 5-6 season in 2010. The Centurions lost to Oaks Christian in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.

Burroughs was 7-5 and co-champions of the Pacific League last season.

Saugus coach Jason Bornn said he expects a physical game against Burroughs.

“They’re always well-coached. I expect them to come out and physically impose their will on us,” Bornn said. “That’s their game plan year in and year out. I expect a hard-fought game.”

The game is set to start at 7:30.

The College of the Canyons men’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Chaffey College.

Chaffey went up 1-0 early in the second half. COC tied the game, 1-1, with a goal in the 80th minute.

COC is 1-0-1 after two games. Next up is San Diego City College on Tuesday.

The Angels lost to the Mariners, 2-1, but didn’t lose any ground in the American League West standings.

The AL West leading Texas Rangers also lost, 4-1, to the Rays. The Angels are still 3 ½ games behind the Rangers in the AL West standings.
