Former Valencia High Basketball Player Loses Battle With Lymphoma
David Stroud, who played on the Valencia High basketball team, lost his battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma and died over the weekend. He was 19.
Stroud played on the Valencia basketball team in 2009. He was diagnosed with lymphoma when he was a junior in high school. He needed a bone marrow transplant, but returned to the team.
He scored the first two points in a game against West Ranch in one of his last games with Valencia.
His family is planning a celebratory service for Stroud on Saturday.
The Canyon High football team is ranked No. 48 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports in its preseason high school football poll. Canyon was 10-2 last season and reached the CIF Southern Section Northern Division quarterfinals.
Canyon opens the 2011 season against Burroughs of Burbank on Sept. 9.
Concord De La Salle was ranked No. 1 by Cal-Hi Sports.
In baseball, the Angels scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and beat the White Sox, 5-4. It was the Angels fifth win in a row.
Peter Bourjous knocked in the winning run with a bases-loaded single. With the win, the Angels are 3 ½ games behind the American League West leading Texas Rangers.
