Sergey Sushchikla Wins COC Cross Country Series Race

khts_sportsSergey Sushchikla won the men’s race in the College of the Canyons cross country series. He crossed the finish line in 15 minutes, 0.4 seconds.

He was followed by Daniel De La Torre in second in 15 minutes, 2.7 seconds.

On the women’s side, Rosa Del Toro won in 17 minutes, 25.9 seconds. Alyssa Selve was second in 17 minutes, 58.1 seconds.

A record number of runners have been competing in the COC cross country series this summer. There were 605 runners entered in the race last night. The final race in the cross country series in next Thursday night.

In baseball, the Angels rallied against Yankees closer Mariano Rivera for the second time in the series in the Bronx, but came up a little short. The Yankees won, 6-5, after the Angels scored three runs in the ninth inning off Rivera.

Russell Branyan hit a three-run homer off Rivera to get the Angels within one run. But Rivera shut down the Angels and saved the game.

In other games, the A’s clobbered the Blue Jays, 10-3, the Rays beat the Royals, 4-1, the White Sox doubled up on the Orioles, 6-3, and the Tigers slipped past the Indians, 4-3.

In the National League, the Padres squeaked out a 3-2 win over the Mets, the Reds edged the Rockies, 2-1, the Diamondbacks beat the Astros, 8-5 in 10 innings, the suddenly surging Cubs beat the Nationals, 4-3, and the Cardinals beat the Brewers, 5-2.
